The Endometriosis Series: The Patient, The Researcher, & The Specialist

⚡️ Did you know that endometriosis affects one in nine women and costs the Australian healthcare system $9.7 billion each year? ⚡️

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month and we at FX Medicine know that managing complex chronic conditions such as endometriosis can be challenging. As practitioners, however, we know there are many ways that natural medicine can support an endometriosis patient.

Take a moment to check out the resources we have collected for you to help further your understanding of and confidence in treating this condition, including our Endometriosis podcast series with Emma Sutherland which is designed to give you a deeper understanding of endometriosis from the perspectives of a patient, a researcher, and a specialist.

THE ENDOMETRIOSIS SERIES

This podcast series explores the true impact endometriosis has from the perspective of the patient, the researcher and the specialist.

THE ENDOMETRIOSIS SERIES: THE PATIENT WITH EMMA SUTHERLAND AND NATARSHA TERREIRO

In part one of our three part series, we speak with Natarsha Terreiro, an endometriosis patient, endo warrior and New South Wales coordinator of Endometriosis Australia, about her personal experience with endometriosis. Natarsha shares her symptoms, the process to diagnosis and how she manages her flare up. Importantly, Natarsha shares her experience with the mental and emotional load of living with a chronic disease and how others can provide support to patients with endometriosis.

THE ENDOMETRIOSIS SERIES: THE RESEARCHER WITH EMMA SUTHERLAND AND PROFESSOR JON WARDLE

In part two of our series on endometriosis, Professor Jon Wardle provides us with an update on endometriosis research including his work on the Endo at Work project, designed to identify the challenges faced by endometriosis patients in the workplace.

Jon shares his motivations for transitioning into endometriosis research and how it aligns with his naturopathic approach to healthcare. Our ambassador Emma Sutherland and Jon discuss the opportunities complementary health practitioners have in supporting patients with endometriosis and the challenges faced by these patients in both the workplace and the healthcare system.

THE ENDOMETRIOSIS SERIES: THE SPECIALIST WITH EMMA SUTHERLAND AND DR. ANDREW ORR

Dr. Andrew Orr, reproductive and women’s health medicine specialist, Chinese Medicine doctor and Naturopath rounds up the final part of our endometriosis series as we look at endometriosis from the perspective of the clinical specialist.

With our ambassador, Emma Sutherland, Andrew describes the challenges in obtaining an endometriosis diagnosis for patients, and provides us with the clinical signs he attributes to endometriosis.

Andrew describes the challenges endometriosis patients may experience in finding appropriate pain relief, and of the many causes of pelvic pain often attributed to endometriosis. We hear Andrew’s preferred holistic strategies to support an endometriosis patient, and of the importance of a collaborative care model to support the complexity and individualistic nature of endometriosis.
